The Mayan people of southern Mexico are some of the poorest people in the hemisphere. Victims of widespread discrimination, high levels of unemployment, disease and malnutrition there is little reason for hope. It is here that Richard Flamer and Araceli have committed themselves to changing this bleak outlook through their Catholic Worker farm Casa de Camillo Torres, . Through their rabbit raising project, a developing flock of chickens and an emerging fruit orchard they are already making a difference. But Richard's dream has been to develop a foundation herd of dairy goats so that the local women can build small herds of goats for milk and to make cheese. The Groff family; Jim, Pat and Chris as well as daughters Anna and Ruth have committed to help them in this project. The Bishop Ruiz Project is the tool for accomplishing this. | |||||||||||||||
